Intercultural studies

Effective communication, even between people from similar cultural backgrounds, can be difficult. As the cultural distance increases between people, so does the probability of miscommunication.

The purpose of this unit is to equip the student with appropriate skills for effective communication across cultural boundaries, in order to ensure that the intended message is not only conveyed, but also understood by the host culture.

Part of this is the area of Cultural Anthropology, the importance of recognising and appreciating the role of culture in understanding ourselves and others.
