I’m scheduled to start teaching first year theology next week. As it had been some time since I’d read Roger Olson’s The Story of Christian Theology, I thought I’d prime myself for the course by re-reading his wonderfully engaging story of theological development through the ages.

You may not agree with aspects of the writer’s own theological journey (I certainly don’t), but if you are new to the subject of historical theology you cannot do better than to let him guide you through the highs and lows of the two thousand years of theological thought which preceded him. Olson has a great ability to pull the threads of the narrative together and show where they lead, whether for good or bad–a judgement call he leaves up to us, his readers.
