I had a dream the other night. I saw an old cathedral with three towers. The walls were solid and strong. I could not see the end of them – the building was that huge. When I went inside I found a building site: rubble, dirt – and a few builders who did not seem to bring much change to the bareness and destitution of this vast place. There was no worship, no beauty, no light, certainly not a sense of the presence of God. I asked myself: Has God finished with the established church? Or will the labour of these committed workers be rewarded? Will the glory of the Lord once again fill His church?

Is 58: 12 came to my mind: “And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in.” (ESV)
